MICHAEL RITCHIE Spruce top 2020

The first guitar we have received made in Michael's new purpose built workshop near Trantlemore in the very north of Scotland. This Sanfeliu model, while a traditional Granada style plantilla has some modern touches like the beautifully designed rosette and intricate bindings of flamed maple.
Although lightly built at just over 3lb Michael's construction methods ensure the guitar has strength in all areas making the guitar capable of outliving the youngest owner.
It's all about the sound and playing though and this guitar is truly incredible right out the case. As we all know spruce guitars generally improve with age but it is difficult to envisage just how much better this guitar could be as it ages. The first noticeable aspect of this guitar is the wonderful dynamics and responsiveness, it seems to anticipate your next phrase and suggests new phrasings. There is volume to spare and a very strong, broad tone can be achieved when playing pianissimo. Deep crisp, lush basses allied with crystal clear trebles gives an overall perfect balance. The radiused fingerboard and fairly low action make it very easy on the left hand.
A truly remarkable concert guitar.
