Roberto started his lutherie training in 1998, attending the Lutherie school in Milan. There he was able to examine the guitars of Torres, Garcia, Gallinotti and others. This led to an early realisation of the importance of using only the best materials. This ensures that his instruments have a high sonority, a warm sound and a good sustain. The guitars can be pushed without the sound choking. Roberto works closely with professional players to seek their feedback on improvements. Roberto is based between Milan and Lake Como (lucky guy!) where he enjoys hillwalking in his spare time. We had the joy of meeting Roberto at the Roma Expo Guitars 2019, an exposition of 30 Italian luthiers. Both of Roberto’s guitars stood out for us for its deep tone and resonance and we secured a spruce / rosewood and cedar / rosewood example from him at the show. Each luthier had one of their guitars played by Anabel Montesinos in a public showcase at the exposition. (A link to the YouTube of the showcase and the time of Roberto’s slot will be published here when the video is published by the organisers). Roberto chose his cedar to be played and this stood out very well, so well that a young student beat us to it. We are offering the spruce that we bought at the Expo and a duplicate cedar will be with us in April. DK is looking forward to a long relationship with Roberto.
