DAN KELLAWAY Australia 2022 Spruce Price was 5,100.00 GBP now 4,800 GBP
Australian luthier Dan Kellaway has been making guitars in all styles for over 45 years. He has become particularly well known for the lattice style guitars popular with Australian luthiers.
This instrument is one of the finest examples of the style. Beautifully crafted, the guitar sports some spectacular timbers. A particular feature is the slot on the back which, simply with the use of an allen key, can adjust the action. At present the treble is set at less than 3 mm making it very easy on the left hand. The elevated fingerboard and armrest make for further additions to the ease of playing.
The guitar has a big sound in all registers, strong bass without overpowering the treble. Excellent separation of voices but with enough overtones filling out the overall sound. The tone is overall bright but tempered a little by the Engelmann spruce top which most luthiers would agree is somewhere in the middle between European spruce and cedar in terms of its stiffness and density.
